What is Opera Factory?

The Opera Factory mission is to provide a platform where young singers are encouraged to explore and develop their singing & love of opera. Opera Factory has its own fringe theatre in a Newmarket & provides a unique, open entry, annual programme offering valuable stepping stones towards an operatic career, by way of workshops, term classes, masterclasses, staged productions, concerts & special events.

Opportunities are offered to all levels from 9 year old beginners to advanced adult performers in the early stages of their careers. Opera Factory graduates are now taking advanced tertiary studies or commencing opera careers in New Zealand & around the world.

Opera Factory operates with a small, mostly voluntary, support team, but employs expert professional tutors and artistic personnel for productions. It is respected for its high level of musical and production standards, as well as its innovative programming and audience development.

Opera Factory is a registered charitable trust. Participation in most areas of the programme is offered at either no charge or nominal amounts. Generous support to specific areas is given by Auckland City, ASB Community Trust, Creative New Zealand and our many donors and benefactors
